Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea, 32 years old, ranked 24th in the WTA and seeded 19th in Miami, won the shortest match so far in the women’s draw of this WTA Masters 1000.
The athlete born in Târgoviște won the match against Sloane Stephens, with a score of 6-2, 6-1, in just 50 minutes, advancing to the third round, where she will face Russian player Daria Kasatkina, ranked 11th in the world.
It was a match that started on Friday evening, but due to frequent interruptions caused by rain, it ended on Saturday, close to midnight in Romania.
Cîrstea thus avenged her loss to Sloane, the champion of the 2017 US Open, after Sloane's victory at Indian Wells on March 10, with a score of 6-0, 7-5.
Kasatkina advanced to the second round by defeating Claire Liu from the USA, who retired at a score of 6-0, 1-0. Sorana Cîrstea is the only Romanian player left in the competition. For reaching the 3rd round, Cîrstea is guaranteed a prize money of $59,000 and 65 WTA points.
Kasatkina and Cîrstea will face off on Sunday at 17:00 Romania time, and in head-to-head matches, Daria leads the Romanian player 2-1.
