Simona Halep spoke for the first time about the curious doping case of Italian Jannick Sinner, the current ATP world leader, who was surprisingly forgiven by ITIA, the global anti-doping agency, unlike the already well-known case of the Romanian champion.
The Romanian was present on Saturday at the inauguration of the new ice rink in Bucharest, in the Berceni area, and there, in a discussion with journalists, she stated that her case was judged completely differently, unlike Sinner’s, and she finds this unfair.
It should be noted that Italian Sinner was not even suspended for a day after failing two consecutive doping tests, and his case was kept secret. The Italian lost the points obtained at Indian Wells and the $300,000 prize, but no other sanctions were imposed against him.
"I don't think it's about defense. I think it's about something very clear and visible. It was judged completely differently, and I suffered a lot. I waited a lot, which I don't find fair at all. I believe all athletes should have the same judgment and be treated equally, regardless of whether they are number 1 or number 200. I don't think what happened is fair. It's a subject I would like to leave behind and continue with my life because life is beautiful," said Simona Halep.
After 12 years, the capital of Romania has a functional ice rink, which was inaugurated on the occasion of the Romanian Ice Hockey Supercup between CSM Corona Brașov and ACSH Gheorgheni. Present at the Berceni Arena inauguration were, among others, Ion Țiriac, Simona Halep, Elisabeta Lipă, and Mihai Covaliu.
