Sorana Cîrstea was dramatically defeated by Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic in the third round of Wimbledon, at the end of a match decided in the decisive tiebreak, where the Romanian also missed a match point.
The Czech athlete, seeded 9th at All England Club, made some statements in front of the press after the game, revealing what it was like to face the Romanian for the 6th time on the circuit and where she believes the difference was made in the match in London.
6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (9), was the score between the two, after 2 hours and about 20 minutes of play. The 21-year-old Czech admitted that she expected a tough match, marking her second victory against Sorana in 2026:
"I knew it would be a battle, our matches are never easy. It's one of those matches where you feel a great relief when you manage to take the lead. I simply refused to lose the match. I kept telling myself that it's never over until the last point. Against Sorana, you always have to play at 100%. I lost a bit of focus at the beginning, but I'm very happy that I could start over. If I had continued like that, the match would have ended differently," said Linda Noskova, quoted by Punto de Break.
This is Noskova's 25th victory of the year, having an exceptional season, entering the top 10 WTA for the first time in her career.
