Nadia Comăneci, the legendary Romanian gymnast, congratulated the national team for qualifying for the EURO 2024 round of 16.
Romania drew with Slovakia, 1-1, in the final match of Group E at EURO 2024 and secured a spot in the knockout stage, prompting several supporters of the tricolors to gather in University Square to celebrate.
Nadia also extended her congratulations to the Romanian national team for reaching the EURO 2024 round of 16, referring to them as the "New Golden Generation."
"Bravo! I am thrilled, like any Romanian. I experienced great emotions during this match. Congratulations, New Golden Generation! To everyone, coaches, players, I will continue to follow you. Can't wait!" stated Nadia Comăneci, as reported by Orange Sport.
It is worth mentioning that Romania qualified for the EURO 2024 round of 16 after drawing 1-1 with Slovakia in the final Group E match. Our team topped the group and advances to the knockout stage, where they will face an opponent to be determined later tonight.
Following the 0-0 draw between Ukraine and Belgium, Romania emerged as the winner of Group E. The final standings are as follows: 1. Romania 4p, 2. Belgium 4p, 3. Slovakia 4p, Ukraine 4p. Belgium and Slovakia have also qualified.
In the round of 16, Romania will play against the Netherlands on July 2 at 19:00. Romania and the Netherlands last met in 2017 in a friendly match which we lost 3-0. We also faced the Netherlands in the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup and suffered defeats of 4-1 and 4-0.
