Romanian midfielder Ianis Hagi entered the field for Glasgow Rangers after several matches in which he only sat on the bench.
The son of the legendary Gheorghe Hagi played 54 minutes for Rangers in the league match against FC Dundee United, which ended in a draw, 1-1. The match took place in round 13 of the current season of the Scottish Premiership. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder came on at halftime, replacing Diomande. He tried to make an impact, got involved in several offensive plays, but unfortunately without much success.
The Scottish press, however, praised him, even though they were not overly impressed by the contribution of the Romanian international overall: "Ianis Hagi wasn't brilliant, but he brought more control to his team's game. His shot at the end of the match forced the opponent's goalkeeper to make some brilliant saves, after the initial shot was blocked in front," wrote those at Ibrox News, who gave Ianis Hagi a rating of 6.
It's worth noting that this is only the third match played by Ianis Hagi this season, as he recently returned to Rangers' first team at the request of Belgian coach Philippe Clement. His first match upon returning to the squad was against St Johnstone, ending 2-0. He provided an assist and was sent off. The second match was against Aberdeen, ending 1-2, where he played for 15 minutes. Ianis Hagi has not yet been a starter for Rangers this season. In the standings, Rangers are only in 3rd place, 11 points behind the leader Celtic.
Hagi played as a starter for the Romanian national team in the last Nations League match they played in 2024, a 4-1 victory against Cyprus.
