Liberal regional leader Raluca Turcan argues that the departure of some mayors from PNL to PSD (both partied in the governing coalition) is „a wrong political action, which weakens the current coalition and jeopardizes the implementation of major projects for the country.”
The liberal minister accuses their political partner of pressures and even blackmail, through which they force mayors to leave PNL for PSD.
"The departure of some mayors from PNL to PSD is a wrong political action, which weakens the current governing coalition and jeopardizes the implementation of major projects for the country. Each mayor, deputy mayor, or councilor who leaves the party represents a blow to the foundation of political and economic stability for which we allied politically and decided to govern together. Because of this, we all lose, not just PNL," stated Raluca Turcan.
She also said that she does not know "of any city in the country where the local public administration led by elected officials of PNL has not received financial support from the Government for investment projects."
"That is precisely why I could bet that it is not the well-being of the local community that drives some to change political parties, even just before elections, but pressures and even blackmail, things that have no place in a EU member state and are profoundly incorrect between two governing partners," Turcan further specified.
Ciucă: This issue is disturbing
PNL president Nicolae Ciucă said, also on Monday, that he does not agree with such an approach, which creates turmoil.
"For me, personally, this issue is disturbing, and I have commented every time, I do not agree with such an approach because we go to the people in each city, we know that the person is chosen there, not the party, and the uncertainty about which political family the mayor will lean towards or not creates turmoil," stated Nicolae Ciucă.
Asked if a pact between the two parties, PSD and PNL, is being considered, Ciucă said: "We have tried this issue before, we have discussed it, even President Flutur came with this insistence, unfortunately, people are as they are, I mean mayors. Moreover, we should not generalize, only some of them have this approach and simply do not understand."
