Romanian PM Marcel Ciolacu, a member of the Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT), officially announces that he will support Elena Lasconi in the second round of the presidential elections, after hesitating in recent days.
In a post on Facebook, Ciolacu links his decision to the declassification of documents regarding the „involvement of state actors” in supporting Călin Georgescu, although as prime minister, Ciolacu participated and knew the content of these documents made public on Wednesday by the Presidential Administration.
However, Ciolacu claims that he couldn't speak publicly about them until now (as they were classified documents), and he was the main victim of the rapid rise of Călin Georgescu.
Furthermore, the prime minister calls for the intervention of state authorities, and "all those responsible to pay!"
Here is the full post:
"I have taken note of the declassification of CSAT documents showing that in the electoral campaign of Mr. Călin Georgescu, undeclared external funding was used by him and that there are working patterns indicating the involvement of state actors!
I could not speak publicly about these documents because I respected the law.
However, one fact is certain: in the electoral competition, I was the most affected by the way Mr. Călin Georgescu artificially increased his exposure, circumventing the legal framework. I hope that, based on the evidence published today, state authorities will do their job, and all those responsible will pay!
Faced with this reality, I will support Mrs. Elena Lasconi in the second round of the presidential elections. We have already started building a pro-European parliamentary and governmental majority to support Mrs. Elena Lasconi in the vote on December 8
We must overcome the wave of hatred that has plagued us for 20 years and focus, together, on a major national objective - continuing Romania's European development path!
This is what both Romanians living in the country and those living in the West expect from us, who have recently conveyed through their vote that we must continue to build a strong and dignified state, capable of fighting for the rights of Romanians wherever they live in the world!"
