Nicușor Dan washes his hands of extremist negotiations: “Not my responsibility”

Nicușor Dan was asked today in Brussels if he endorsed the negotiations with AUR for supporting the Veștea Government.

The head of state avoided taking responsibility, stating that „there is a constitutional division of powers and the president’s role is to appoint the prime minister.”

Furthermore, Nicușor Dan does not seem bothered that Adrian Veștea needs votes from AUR to pass his Government.

"I, after numerous consultations with the parties, designated what I understood from their options as a possibility to solve the crisis.

You also remember my criticisms of the parties, when I said that we need to look more at the national interest and less at the party's interest, even if it is legitimate.

I don't want to make too many comments.

We can have a much broader discussion when this process is completed, however it will end."

Nicușor Dan was directly asked if he admits that Veștea cannot pass without the extremists' votes.

His response was: "When I appointed a prime minister, I did so with the conviction that he can be voted in and solve this crisis once and for all. I appointed him to form a majority."

"Take into account the AUR votes?" "I don't need to. It's a discussion that concerns the prime minister."

He was then asked if there is still a political solution for forming a stable majority and if he will ask Veștea to resign, to which the president replied: "Let me return to the country to understand the realities. Again, I appointed a prime minister to form a government, to have a majority, and to get out of this crisis."

Finally, Nicușor Dan told us once again that "it will be a pro-Western government that will be very careful with finances and reforms."

Meanwhile, in Romania, the political crisis continues. Premier-designate Adrian Veștea will not submit today to Parliament the government program and the list of ministers for the future Cabinet, according to political sources for Spotmedia.

It is the second day Veștea promises to submit the documents and does not keep his word.

According to the sources, Veștea still lacks the necessary votes for investiture and continues to negotiate. He had discussions until late at night with PSD, and Sorin Grindeanu and Adrian Veștea are still unsure whether the Government will pass.

The Social Democrats met today in a session. Sorin Grindeanu stated that PSD's decision regarding forming a majority will be further delayed. PSD will have a session on Sunday, the same day as the extraordinary congress of PNL, to decide whether to support the future cabinet.

So far, the liberals led by Ilie Bolojan have decided not to support the Veștea Government. Additionally, USR, UDMR, AUR, and SOS have announced they will not vote. However, there is a faction within AUR, led by Deputy Mohammad Murad, who would support it.
