Kelemen Hunor, about the scandal regarding judges' pensions: They have targeted me. They shot at the pianist

The President of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, emphasizes that the project regarding the pensions of magistrates cannot be finalized before the publication of the Constitutional Court’s reasoning.

The UDMR leader specifies that public debates on this topic have turned into an unjustified attack against him.

"Now I find myself riddled (…). The charger has been unloaded onto the pianist. When I have nothing to do with magistrates, every time I have defended judges. Now, 2, 3, 4, 5 years ago, when it was with the Special Inspection, I don't know exactly, those who are riddling me today congratulated me back then. So, I am a principled person, I have nothing against judges or prosecutors," said Kelemen Hunor in an intervention on Antena 1.

"Society is extremely nervous"

The UDMR leader explained that the intention of the governing coalition is to bring equity and social balance to the pension system.

"Simply put, what did the Government and this coalition want? To bring justice, because society is extremely, extremely nervous. There is a perception that they retire after 25 years of work, at 48, at 50 years, the pension is as it is, and then we said: let's give 35 years of work activity, let's say there is a 10-year transition, because you can't do it overnight, and let it be, just as it is in the European Union, the general average, 70% of net income. In the European Union, there is no more than 70% of net income in pensions," he stated.

"We must wait for the reasoning of the Constitutional Court"

Kelemen Hunor emphasized that the adoption of the new law depends on the publication of the Constitutional Court's decision reasoning, in order to determine what needs to be corrected.

"We have not yet seen the reasoning of the Constitutional Court, we must wait for the reasoning and, after we have it, see what needs to be corrected. If it's just a procedural issue, the matter is relatively simple, because then we restart the procedure and wait for the CSM's opinion if it needs 30 days. If it's not just a procedural issue, then the substance needs to be seen. But we don't have the Court's reasoning. It's hard to say what needs to be corrected when you haven't seen the reasoning," concluded the UDMR leader.
