AUR candidate for the presidential elections George Simion declared, on Thursday evening, in an interview on a French television, that President Emmanuel Macron has dictatorial tendencies and compared the country to Iran. The show’s host interrupted him and told him he was speaking just like Putin.
Thursday evening, George Simion was making shocking statements in the CNEWS studio, a television close to the far-right French politicians Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour.
Even in such a friendly, ideologically close environment, Simion managed to scandalize the journalists present in the studio, as noted by Antena3.
Simion stated, reading from a sheet, in very broken French, that French President Emmanuel Macron "is the only European president" who mentioned Russia's interference in Romania's elections. "There is no such interference," claimed Simion.
"I come from a country where Russia has left only bad memories, I am neither a friend nor an admirer of Vladimir Putin," said Simion, reading from the sheet, specifying that he belonged to the same European political family that supports Ukraine's sovereignty.
Just because Romania is located in the East, it should not be compared to Russia or Ukraine, "which often have Soviet reflexes," Simion added.
"Our position is the same as that of our strategic partner, the USA," he stated, referring to the war in Ukraine, then he began speaking in Romanian in the middle of the sentence when he didn't get the words right in French: "Nous voulons (we want)... a ceasefire a ceasefire."
Simion asked the French journalists not to compare Romania to Russia or Ukraine.
"I believe that Eastern Europe will awaken the entire continent, and just because we are in the East, do not confuse us with Russia or Ukraine, which often have Soviet reflexes," he further declared.
Asked by a journalist in the studio if Romania should not be compared to Poland either, the AUR candidate stated: "Poland is a model for us."
Comparison with Iran
Simion also said that Macron has "dictatorial tendencies" and compared France to Iran, at which point the journalists started laughing and using ironic phrases.
"I want to tell you that France is a democracy that does not have dictatorial tendencies. If you already call your counterpart a dictator, this is 'promising' for Romania's relations with France," the French journalist warned.
Simion continued and compared France to Iran: "I draw a parallel with Iran, with the ayatollahs who decide who can run for office."
"You are going too far, we cannot compare France to Iran, I guarantee you. I don't think after these statements you will be welcomed quickly at the Elysée Palace," the host warned him.
"I don't need to be received at the Elysée Palace," George Simion replied.
France, "a country without God"
The AUR candidate also stated that France is "a country without God" and more and more French cities are dirty and dangerous.
"Unfortunately, in France and in other Western countries, you have lost the relationship with God, with your ancestors. You have lost the relationship with God, with your heroes, you no longer know who you are. It is time to return to tradition and stop mutilating your children with sex change operations. You harm yourselves. France, as a European, Christian country, will no longer exist," he said.
"I have traveled to France. More and more cities look like Paris. They are dangerous, dirty, without God. Both in France and in Europe, we need healing," he continued, to the astonishment of those present.
Journalist: "Insulting many French people"
A journalist in the studio told Simion: "You pretend to criticize Putin, but you use exactly Vladimir Putin's arguments."
It is worth mentioning that Nicușor Dan participated alone in the electoral debate organized by TVR, as George Simion refused direct confrontation. Later, the AUR candidate did not confirm his presence at the Friday debate for which he initially agreed, so TVR announced the cancellation of the show.
