Wiz Khalifa sentenced to 9 months in prison in Romania after smoking cannabis at "Beach, Please!" festival

American rapper Wiz Khalifa (real name Thomaz Cameron Jibril) has been definitively sentenced in Romania to 9 months of imprisonment in detention, in a case of drug possession for personal use, according to a decision pronounced on Wednesday by the Court of Appeal Constanta.

The decision comes after the court accepted the appeal filed by DIICOT – Constanta Territorial Service and partially annulled the previous decision of the Constanta Tribunal, which had imposed only a criminal fine of 3,000 lei.

According to the court record, the Court of Appeal decided to sentence the artist to 9 months of imprisonment under Law no. 143/2000, for the offense of possession of risk drugs, without authorization, for personal consumption, as reported by Cancan.

The decision is final, according to the current Romanian legislation.

The actions for which Wiz Khalifa was tried took place in the year 2024. During the proceedings, Wiz Khalifa was briefly detained and later released, without being placed in pretrial detention.

The case does not involve trafficking offenses, but solely possession for personal use, an act punishable in Romania by sentences ranging from 3 months to 2 years of imprisonment or a fine.
