Ukraine no longer advises against travel to Hungary

Ukraine lifted, on Monday, the recommendation addressed to its citizens to avoid traveling to Hungary, following the victory of Peter Magyar.

„Following the conclusion of the elections in Hungary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine cancels its previous recommendation for citizens to refrain from traveling to Hungary. This electoral campaign, which unfortunately was full of anti-Ukrainian rhetoric, has ended. Therefore, the increased risk of provocation that led to these restrictions has also decreased,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, as quoted by Pravda.

At the beginning of March, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Ukrainians to avoid traveling to Hungary after 7 Ukrainian security guards transporting money for a bank were detained by the country's authorities.

After the elections, the ministry withdrew its previous recommendation, Sybiha said. He mentioned that the electoral process was marked by anti-Ukrainian rhetoric. However, he pointed out that the risk of provocations that led to the restrictions has now diminished.

Ukraine is ready to normalize relations with Hungary, the minister added.

"The choice of the Hungarian people also marked the defeat of blackmail and anti-Ukrainian propaganda. Hungarians have clearly stated: enough. This will have consequences for other parties and movements in Europe that promote similar rhetoric," wrote Sybiha.

The Foreign Minister added that Ukraine and Hungary still have significant work to do to restore good neighborly relations in the interest of both countries and Europe as a whole.
