President Donald Trump’s popularity has dropped to the lowest level of his entire political career. Only 32% of Americans approve of the way he is carrying out his mandate.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, Trump is losing ground even among his own voters, dissatisfied with the rising cost of living and the prolonged conflict with Iran.
The support the president enjoys among Republicans dropped in just one week from 82% to 73%. Overall, the percentage of Americans satisfied with Trump's performance has decreased from 35% to 32%.
When he returned to the White House in January 2025, Trump had a 47% approval rating, after winning the election promising to reduce inflation and end foreign wars.
Only 17% are satisfied with how he manages price increases
The biggest issue for the American president is the cost of living. Only 17% of survey participants believe that Trump is handling this area well, even though price increases are the main concern that Americans say they will consider in the congressional elections on November 3.
Discontent has come to dominate even within the Republican Party. For the first time, the number of Republicans who disapprove of Trump's handling of the cost of living exceeds that of supporters: 51% versus 44%.
Trump's conflict with Iran in February has led to a significant increase in gasoline and diesel prices. The conflict has reduced the global market's access to a significant portion of oil and gas produced in the Middle East, fueling fears of a new wave of price hikes.
Only 34% of Americans approve of the attacks on Iran. At the same time, 82% believe that the war will continue for a long period, although Trump initially claimed it would only last a few weeks.
Democrats pull ahead before the elections
The president's decline is also evident in voting intentions for the parliamentary elections in November, which will determine who controls Congress in the final two years of his term.
Among registered voters, 43% say they would vote for Democratic candidates, compared to 35% who prefer Republicans. The eight-point lead is the largest obtained by Democrats in this year's Reuters/Ipsos polls.
Trump continues to have strong support among Republicans regarding immigration, but at the population level, only 36% approve of his policy in this area, while 55% reject it. Regarding crime fighting, 35% are satisfied with the president's performance, while 50% are dissatisfied.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online on a sample of 1,277 adults from the United States and has a margin of error of three percentage points.
