The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, announced from Washington that the United States and Romania have agreed to continue the presence of American troops in NATO bases in our country.
The decision was confirmed following a bilateral meeting that the Romanian diplomacy chief had with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"We agreed that the presence of American soldiers must continue, playing an essential role both for Romania and the region. It has a deterrent effect on potential intrusions and brings stability to our neighbors who are not EU or NATO members," stated Oana Țoiu.
The discussion also addressed investments in the defense industry, as well as the development of common capabilities between the two states. "These days, we are talking about an increased stake regarding investments and the development of common capabilities," she emphasized.
Expanded Cooperation in Energy and Nuclear Projects
The two officials also discussed cooperation in the energy field, particularly regarding nuclear projects and the logistical support provided by Romania for the transport of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe. "American companies already operating in Romania will contribute to accelerating projects, including regarding the reactors at Cernavodă," specified the Foreign Minister.
The meeting also included discussions about the future visit of President Nicușor Dan to the United States, which could take place in the first quarter of next year, with a possible meeting with President Donald Trump.
The Black Sea issue was also on the agenda of the discussions with the American official.
"Regarding the Black Sea, we discussed our common priorities, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio proposed that Romania consider signing proposals practically put forward by the United States concerning maritime security regarding submarine cables," conveyed the Foreign Minister.
"An Excellent Meeting for Both Countries"
Oana Țoiu emphasized at the end that the discussions confirm the strength of the Romanian-American strategic partnership: "It was an excellent meeting. For both states, our strategic partnership matters not only in the security field but also in energy and in the human relationships built over time."
She recalled that this was her third meeting with Marco Rubio, following those in The Hague and New York, during NATO and UN meetings.
