The ceremonies in Chișinău on the occasion of Independence Day are not without incidents. The police in the Republic of Moldova announced that they thwarted an attempt to disrupt the ceremonies in which several European leaders will participate.

Authorities have posted a message on Facebook, in which a man tells those who want to participate in a protest in the center of the capital how to organize themselves.

„We meet tonight on the street, around 16:40 – 16:30, in the center, we will divide into groups of ten, in different corners, so as not to attract attention. We went, each took a balloon from the car, we gathered, made a video. We threw the balloons, shouted ‘Shame, shame, shame’ three times, a kind of mini-protest,” the man in the recording says.

The man advises those who want to participate in the protest on what to do if they receive a fine.

„In case of anything, God forbid, we don’t say anything, we don’t say who added us, who and how. After we meet and gather, we delete all messages and, even if they happen to give us fines, you give them to me and the fine will be paid,” the man further says.

French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk are expected in Moldova on Wednesday, as the country celebrates 34 years of independence, a clear gesture of solidarity at a key moment for the country.

Considered particularly vulnerable after the Russian invasion of neighboring Ukraine, Moldova is preparing next month for a crucial legislative election for its pro-European path.
