The General Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday the opening of three criminal cases targeting as many individuals accused of making death threats against magistrates. The complaints were filed by the Superior Council of Magistracy.
According to the institution, „today, December 4, 2025, the case prosecutor from the Criminal Investigation Section of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice ordered the continuation of the criminal investigation against 3 suspects, individuals without special status, in three separate criminal cases, for committing public instigation offenses.”
Investigators specify that the messages were posted on an online platform, urging the public to commit murder, qualified murder, or judicial outrage against Romanian magistrates, as well as against their families or close ones.
"The three criminal cases were initiated following the complaint filed in September 2025 by the Superior Council of Magistracy," stated the General Prosecutor's Office.
The threats seem to come in the context of tension generated in recent months by the bill proposing an increase in the retirement age and a reduction in pensions for magistrates. Judges and prosecutors have consistently opposed these changes, and some have chosen to protest by delaying the deadlines of certain trials for extended periods.
