Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan commented on Thursday evening the controversies surrounding the CV of Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu, after several inconsistencies in his documents were publicly highlighted.
The Head of the Executive stated to Digi24 that he did not select ministers based on diplomas, but on how he works with them, although he acknowledges that the publicly surfaced information „does not put Ionuț Moșteanu in a favorable position.”
"The ministers of this government are proposals from political parties within the governmental arc. This is also the case with Mr. Moșteanu," stated the Prime Minister. Bolojan specified that he did not analyze CVs when forming the governmental team: "I tried not to work with CVs, with diplomas, but I tried to work with the minister himself."
However, the Prime Minister admits that the situation raises questions: "I have also heard about today's aspects, and they are not of a nature to put him in a favorable position, but I have had good collaboration with Moșteanu."
Bolojan also mentioned that he has already discussed with the Education Minister, who is currently in Bosnia. "I had a discussion with him; he is in Bosnia now. I acknowledge the situation we are in - I am an advocate of stability in position, considering that we are in the midst of negotiating the SAFE program. It is important to have continuity. I hope that these days things will clarify," the Prime Minister pointed out.
When asked about possible consequences, Ilie Bolojan emphasized that the final decision lies with the minister: "If he leaves, it is a decision he makes. I told him, 'Chin up.'"
The controversies arise after Bioterra University informed Digi24 that Ionuț Moșteanu attended courses for four years, although his diploma indicates five years. Furthermore, those at Bioterra specified that Moșteanu completed the third and fourth years in a single academic year.
Moreover, an older CV of the minister mentioned Athenaeum University as the institution he graduated from. Athenaeum University denied that Moșteanu was ever a student there. The minister admitted that in the old CV, "I made a mistake." "In a CV made in 2016, on a template taken from the internet, a mistake remained that I admit embarrasses me. I did not pay too much attention to these details at that time. For this, I apologize," Moșteanu said.
