A woman from Brașov was fined for planting flowers in the apartment building's garden

The Police in the Romanian city of Brașov showed excessive zeal in the case of a 76-year-old woman whom they fined for planting some flowers in the green area of the apartment building where she lived.

The situation was reported by local councilor Constantin Vieriu during the local deliberative plenary session on April 25. For planting flowers without complying with legal provisions, the woman was fined 100 lei, as reported by BZB.ro.

The councilor also presented the sanctioning minutes drawn up by the Police.

Mayor Allen Coliban mentioned that the sanction was applied based on a decision of the Brașov Local Council. "It is a regulation approved by the former local administration. I will request a detailed report from the Brașov Local Police regarding this situation," said the mayor.

However, local councilors argue that their colegue who reported the situation also violated the law. At his request, the sanctioning minutes were projected during the session, breaching GDPR rules, as the personal data of the woman became public.

In his defense, the councilor stated that he had the consent of the person in question.

The Brașov City Hall does not plant flowers in the squares and gardens of apartment buildings, but now they are full of flowers, and after this precedent, the whole city is subject to fines.
