Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will pay a visit to the United States of America on Tuesday and Wednesday, where he will be received at the White House by the U.S. President, Joe Biden. Additionally, Klaus Iohannis will be awarded a prize by the Atlantic Council in the U.S.

According to the presidential agenda, Iohannis will be received by Biden at 1:30 PM local time (8:30 PM Romanian time).

"On this occasion, priority issues of the international and bilateral agenda will be discussed. A special place in the exchange of views between the two heads of state will be held by the situation in Ukraine and the Black Sea basin, as well as the strengthening of security in the Euro-Atlantic area.

The high-level dialogue will be a good opportunity to enhance the profile of the Strategic Partnership with the United States and reaffirm the privileged bilateral relations between the two states and multisectoral cooperation.

President Klaus Iohannis' visit to the U.S. will be a good opportunity to reaffirm Romania's role as a security provider and an active actor in managing international crises, respected by the partners in NATO," the Romanian Presidential Administration stated.

On Wednesday President Klaus Iohannis will be awarded the Distinguished International Leadership Award for 2024 at the Atlantic Council Distinguished Leadership Awards gala.

The Atlantic Council in the U.S. has decided to award this prize to the President of Romania for 2024 as a recognition of his career and his role as a transatlantic and European leader.

Iohannis is the first European head of state honored with this distinction in the 24 years since the award was established.

The ceremony for the Atlantic Council Distinguished Leadership Awards will take place on May 8 at 7:00 PM local time (May 9 at 2:00 AM Romanian time), and Klaus Iohannis will deliver a speech.

The Atlantic Council is a prestigious American think tank organization founded in 1961, with a rich activity in the field of international affairs.
