The former president of Prahova County Council, liberal Iulian Dumitrescu, argues that both the Constitution and the party’s Statute allow him to run in the local elections on June 9, but it is a personal decision that he must make.
„There is a Constitution in this country, and the Constitution was made by people smarter than me and you, and according to the Constitution, and I believe you know that I have the right to run. There is a Statute of the party (National Liberal Party – PNL), which was made by people smarter than me, and according to the Statute, I have the right to run, but there is a personal decision that I have to make,” stated Iulian Dumitrescu.
Regarding the criminal case in which he is being investigated, he commented: "There are people put there by Vlad Cosma, who wants to get hold of Prahova County."
Iulian Dumitrescu appeared on Thursday at Police Section 2 in Bucharest as part of judicial control.
PNL Prahova announced on March 20 that the President of the County Council, Iulian Dumitrescu, investigated by the DNA for corruption, will run for a new term.
PNL President Nicolae Ciucă stated on Tuesday about Iulian Dumitrescu's candidacy in Prahova that it is a party strategy that he manages as he sees fit.
PSD (Social Democratic Party, allied with PNL in the government) has pronounced against including any candidate with legal issues on the electoral lists of the social democrats, stating that the PSD Prahova Organization supports the current county prefect, Virgil Nanu, for the presidency of the County Council.
Iulian Dumitrescu, former president of PNL Prahova and former vice president of PNL, is suspected that, with the help of his brother-in-law, Daniel Lambrea, he allegedly demanded a businessman to purchase, in exchange for the amount of 47,500,000 lei, the social shares owned by Daniel Lambrea in a company, a value overestimated compared to their real value, in connection with the performance of duties as president of CJ Prahova and allegedly received, by December 4, 2023, with the help of the two accomplices, a total of 16,210,000 lei.
