Romania’s Recovery Plan Implementation Surpasses 60%, With €10 Billion Still to Be Secured

The implementation level of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) has exceeded 60% after the approval of payment request number 4, amounting to 2.62 billion euros, announced the Government following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at Victoria Palace.

According to the Government, Romania still needs to attract approximately 10 billion euros through payment requests 5 and 6, funds allocated for the completion of projects and reforms assumed under the PNRR.

At the same time, the Government is preparing for negotiations with the European Commission scheduled for May 22 in Brussels, where the final version of the PNRR will be discussed. The Government states that the objective is to "fully exploit the available funds," both from grants and the loan component.

During Wednesday's meeting, investments and reforms in education, health, energy, economy, digitalization, and transportation were analyzed, including measures related to decarbonization and reducing delays in the railway system.

There are particular issues at the Ministry of Health, where the urgent adoption of several government decisions is needed to make the necessary payments for the continuation of works at hospitals financed through PNRR.

"There is an urgent need to promote several outstanding government decisions to ensure payments are made, a crucial factor for the continuation of works so that hospitals funded through PNRR are completed by the end of August, as agreed," the Government's statement reads.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has requested ministries to promptly forward the need for additional funding to the Ministry of Finance to ensure the flow of payments and accelerate project implementation.
