A 31-year-old man from Petroșani was identified by the police as the author of the improvised installation discovered on Sunday in the railway tunnel at Turdaș. He told investigators that the object was an „artistic project.”
The installation, placed on the tunnel wall, was considered suspicious and led to the interruption of train traffic for nearly two hours on both tracks of the 200 mainline, between Simeria and Orăștie.
According to the Hunedoara Police, the incident was reported on Sunday, August 23, around 14:40. The object was removed by specialized personnel, and Transport Police officers initiated investigations and identified the person who placed it.
Criminal case for the "artistic project"
The man explained to the police that the installation represented an "artistic project." However, the chosen location and the risks posed to train traffic turned his initiative into a criminal case.
"Considering the location where it was placed and the impact on railway traffic safety, the police have opened a criminal case for the offense of destruction or false signaling," announced the Hunedoara County Police Inspectorate.
The investigations continue under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Orăștie Court. Investigators will determine the circumstances in which the object was mounted and the consequences produced.
Rail traffic was resumed on both tracks after nearly two hours, following the tunnel checks.
The police remind people that access to restricted railway areas is prohibited and that any artistic activity carried out near the railway track must comply with legal conditions and have the necessary approvals. Unusual objects observed on the railway infrastructure should not be touched or moved but immediately reported to the authorities.
