The Ambassador of Iran to Bulgaria suggested that any base used for attacks against Iran could be a legitimate target, mentioning that Romania should not be involved in the war.
However, Romanian authorities reject any direct military threat.
In an interview with the Bulgarian press, the Iranian Ambassador, Ali Reza Irvash, commented on the nuclear program and security in the Middle East region, emphasizing that Iran "seeks and desires peace, but our country and the Iranian people will not submit to demands that are not correct."
The Ambassador stated that the war is not Romania's or Bulgaria's.
However, he warned: "If a base is used to attack our territories, our people, shouldn't this base become a legitimate target for our responses?".
The Iranian diplomat called on Romania or any other country not to become part of a conflict "between Americans and Israelis against our people".
The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, responded by stating that "no signal has been received from Iran regarding any military threat."
Miruță explained that the Ambassador's statements are hypotheses and do not correspond to reality. "We are not in that situation in Romania. Official information from Tehran has been about legal and political consequences, not military ones. At the level of the Ministry of Defense, at the level of the Romanian Government, we have not received any signal from Iran regarding a military threat," the minister said on Monday evening on B1 TV.
Referring to the deployment of American aircraft in Romania, the minister specified that these are part of a defensive program: "They are refueling planes, monitoring and satellite communication equipment, without actual weapons, meant to enhance Romania's security. Romania has received assurances from American partners that these aircraft do not take off with explosive cargo, and under these conditions, our country cannot be categorized as having an offensive attitude in the conflict in the Middle East."
