The fugitive Prince Paul Philippe of Romania was placed under house arrest in Paris on Monday morning, based on the European arrest warrant issued by Romanian authorities, judicial sources claim.
Following requests from SIRENE Romania to SIRENE France on Monday, French authorities informed that the prince was arrested at home at 05:54 in Paris for the execution of the European arrest warrant issued by Romanian judicial authorities.
On his behalf, the Brasov Court of Appeal requested the SIRENE Office to issue an alert for arrest and surrender based on the new European arrest warrant and requested the withdrawal of the old one.
The cited sources specify that the procedure for executing the European arrest warrant issued by Romania is currently ongoing.

Fugitive Paul and his saga in foreign courts
At the age of 77, Paul-Philippe of Romania fled from Romania in 2020, when he was sentenced to nearly 3 and a half years in prison for corruption related to the illegal restitution of real estate properties near Bucharest, falsely claiming ownership of them.
In June 2022, he was captured in Paris, but a Court of Appeal refused to extradite him to Romania.
Prince Paul currently resides in Italy, but he came to Malta in the summer of 2024 for a conference and was detained based on a European arrest warrant. Subsequently, the Maltese court ordered judicial control and his release on bail after spending over 2 months in custody. Ultimately, the extradition was not approved. The Maltese court believed that Prince Paul was the heir to the Royal House and was sentenced for political reasons.
