On the 965th day of war, Russian forces launched missiles on the city of Mykolaiv. One person was killed, and 23 were injured, with several buildings and infrastructure being damaged.

The situation worsens in Toretsk, the city in the Donetsk region that Russian troops have been assaulting for several months. There are no longer intact buildings or shelters, allowing the Russians to occupy new areas. The city, destroyed by bombings, now resembles a desert planet, said a spokesperson for a Ukrainian unit.

In the occupied territories, Ukrainians in need of medical treatment receive free medication only if they have a Russian passport, accuses the Eastern Human Rights Group. Russia systematically forces people from Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia to accept Russian passports.

In Moscow, a car exploded in a parking lot, with the blast caused by a device placed near the windshield. Three people, including a six-year-old child, were injured. The car belongs to a Russian businessman.

Furthermore, Hungary and the Russian energy giant Gazprom are negotiating additional gas purchases by Budapest for next year. The two parties will use the TurkStream pipeline, built just before the invasion of Ukraine, which delivers Russian gas under the Black Sea to Turkey and then to Bulgaria.

  • Toretsk, a City from Another Planet - There are no longer intact buildings or shelters in the city of Toretsk in the Donetsk region, allowing Russian troops to occupy new areas of the city destroyed by bombings, said Anastasia Bobovnikova, spokesperson for the Luhansk Tactical Operational Group. "Now the city looks more like a desert planet: there are no shelters for civilians or soldiers, and unfortunately, this allows the enemy to occupy new areas, but on scorched earth," said Bobovnikova, adding that Russian soldiers change their military uniforms to civilian clothing to head towards Ukrainian positions, a tactic they use in other localities as well. Toretsk is located about 35 km north of the occupied part of the Donetsk region and has become one of the hottest points on the eastern front in recent months. According to local authorities, Kyiv controlled approximately 40-50% of the city by October 11. Previously, the Ukrainian army reported fighting "at the entrance of each building," while Russian forces pressed from the east along the main street. Losing the city would be another blow to Ukraine in the Donetsk region, after its forces were forced to withdraw from Vuhledar in the south. Russian forces also continue to advance towards Kurakhove and Pokrovsk, a key logistical center located about 50 km west of Toretsk.
  • Almost 200 Battles on the Front - In the last 24 hours, there have been 198 armed confrontations along the entire front line. The most intense battles were recorded in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove sectors, reported Tuesday by the Ukrainian army's General Staff.

What's Happening in Russia

  • Car Blown Up - Three people, including a six-year-old boy, were injured on Tuesday following the explosion of their car in southern Moscow, according to official sources cited by EFE. "In connection with the incident that occurred in southwest Moscow, resulting in a damaged vehicle and three injured, including a minor, the authorities (...) have opened a criminal case for the attempted murder of two or more persons," said the Investigative Committee in a statement. According to the Russian press, the car was parked on a street when the explosive device placed near the windshield detonated. One of those affected by the explosion is a Russian businessman, so investigators are studying the possible connection of the incident with his activities.
  • Rescued after Two Months Adrift - A 46-year-old man, found adrift for 67 days in the Sea of Okhotsk in the Pacific, was rescued on Monday. His brother (49 years old) and nephew (15 years old) on the boat did not survive, as reported by Reuters. The three set sail in a rubber boat at the beginning of August from Cape Perovsky to the city of Okha (Sakhalin), but later, radio contact with the vessel was lost. The boat was found about 1,000 km from the initial destination, announced authorities from the Russian Far East. The survivor lost 50 kg in the two months at sea and was immediately hospitalized.

  • Medication Only with Russian Passport in Occupied Areas - From 2025, Ukrainians in the territories occupied by Russia diagnosed with diabetes, bronchial asthma, and other conditions will lose access to free medication if they do not have a Russian passport, accuses the Eastern Human Rights Group. This practice has already been implemented in Starobilsk, in the Lugansk region, where locals without Russian citizenship are denied medical services and free medication. Patients must be registered in a special registry for this assistance. The National Resistance Center of Ukraine has condemned this practice, considering it a genocide to erase Ukrainian identity.
  • Ukrainian Paratroopers Outsmart Kursk Incursion - Paratroopers from the 80th Airborne Brigade managed to infiltrate the Russian region of Kursk two days before the start of the operation to disrupt Russian communication systems and disorient Russian units. "My unit, one of the campaigns, crossed the border two days before the operation began. We hid in the woods and waited for the action to start," said brigade commander Pavlo Rozlaci "Vedmid," as reported by Monitorul Apărării, citing Pravda Ukrainska. Special forces soldiers were able to carry out a risky operation because if the Russians discovered that campaign, the element of surprise would be lost. "I was very stressed not to be noticed, but we moved the campaign in small groups of six people, from one tree line to another, covering our positions in the forest." Attacks on Russian command posts disrupted their communications, causing chaos among the Russians. Due to poor communication, the enemy began firing at their own troops, giving Ukrainian forces an additional advantage.
  • Hungary Seeks More Gas from Gazprom - Hungary and the Russian energy giant Gazprom are negotiating additional gas purchases by Budapest for 2025, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. "In fact, we are increasing the volume. We have already signed an additional agreement for the last quarter of this year, covering additional volumes at a price guaranteeing competitive prices. Now we are negotiating an agreement for the next year," Szijjártó said. To do this, the two parties intend to use the full potential of the TurkStream pipeline, built just before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which delivers Russian gas under the Black Sea to Turkey and then to Bulgaria. Bulgaria does not import gas from this pipeline but ensures transit to Serbia and then to Hungary, noted Ukrainska Pravda.
  • Kremlin Denies Meddling in Moldova's Affairs - The Kremlin "categorically rejects" accusations by Moldovan authorities that it is interfering in the country's upcoming presidential elections and the referendum on EU accession, reported TASS and Moscow Times. "We do not interfere in the internal affairs of others," emphasized Dmitry Peskov. "There are still many people in Moldova who support having good relations with our country," he added. "These people are denied the right to have their own political representation, the media is restricted from covering the electoral process, and politicians are prohibited from expressing their support for establishing good relations with Russia," Peskov stated.
