The American press "tagged" David Popovici: "The boy who could be king"

The press in the United States of America reacted to the fabulous performance of David Popovici (19 years old) at the 2024 Olympic Games.

American journalists have not forgotten that they labeled David Popovici as a „rising star” three years ago when it was announced that he would be an exceptional athlete, considering the successful performances at a young age.

"The boy who could be king," that's how journalists from Swimming World described David Popovici in 2021.

"David Popovici claims gold in 200m freestyle with last stroke heroics," American journalists headlined.

David Popovici made a fabulous recovery in the last 50 meters of the race and stopped the clock first at 1:44.72. Thus, he became an Olympic champion for the first time in his career. Matthew Richards, with 1:44.74, and Luke Hobson, with 1:44.79, completed the podium in the 200m freestyle race.
