Ilie Bolojan said after the consultations at Cotroceni that Romania needs a government with a credible prime minister, competent ministers, and a program that takes into account the realities of our economy. PNL has two options for getting out of the crisis.
„Regardless of who will be nominated, if approved by Parliament, their main challenge will be to maintain control over public finances. One of the significant gains in this government has been regaining control over public finances to limit our debt and deficits,” emphasized Bolojan.
The PNL President added that the new government must also continue measures to reduce state spending.
"The new government will need to continue measures to reduce state spending, to put this state at the service of citizens, and obviously, to create conditions for an economy based on healthier foundations, an economy that does not develop and operate solely on credit and consumption, but an economy based on an increasingly important component of investments, labor, productivity growth, being the only conditions that a government can consider for an economic recovery in the coming period."
He specified that the new government must monitor projects in the energy sector so that in the coming years, the price of energy will be lower, and continue reforms in administration.
"Bolojan also emphasized that PNL will have discussions with the designated prime minister."
"PNL will discuss with the designated prime minister, and if the program proposed, the team proposed will respect these things, we will seek to find a formula to have a government installed in such a way that Romania maintains its credibility in front of international markets."
"Let's give Romanians a clear perspective and put an end to this provisional situation generated by the irresponsible decision of the PSD to dismiss a government without putting anything in its place," Bolojan added.
Like Sorin Grindeanu, Ilie Bolojan also did not want to answer questions.
Two options for exiting the crisis
Later, the Senate President, Mircea Abrudean, announced on Facebook that PNL went to the consultations at Cotroceni with two options for exiting the crisis:
- Designating Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister and forming a reformist government alongside USR and UDMR.
- Installing a technocratic government with a limited mandate.
Abrudean argues that the prime minister should be designated on Thursday, as Romania can no longer extend the interim period.
President Nicușor Dan started Thursday morning at the Cotroceni Palace a new round of consultations with parties and parliamentary groups, for the designation of the candidate for the position of prime minister. The discussions take place after four months of political crisis and two failed attempts to form a government.
From the PNL delegation, Dan Motreanu, Mircea Abrudean, Ciprian Ciucu, Oana Gheorghiu, and Robert Sighiartău are also present.
