Sorana Cîrstea (34 years old, WTA 31) has announced that she is taking „a long break” from tennis.
In a message posted on her Facebook page, Sorana Cîrstea announced that she is going to take „a long break” to treat a medical issue she has been facing for five months.
Cîrstea specified that she is suffering from plantar fasciitis and, in recent months, she pushed through to not miss important tournaments. However, due to unbearable pain, she has decided to take a break from tennis and address her issues.
She mentioned that she doesn't know exactly how long the break will be.
"In the last 5 months, I have had severe plantar fasciitis problems. I did everything possible to play and not miss important tournaments. But I have reached a point where the pain is unbearable, it is very difficult to train, and the only remaining solution is a longer break," noted Cîrstea on Facebook.
At this moment, we do not know how long the recovery will take, but I will do everything possible to return to the court as soon as possible," Cîrstea added.
Sorana Cîrstea's last match was at Wimbledon, in the first round, where she lost to Sonay Kartal, WTA 298, with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 0-6.
