PSD announced on Friday the package of measures it considers mandatory to provide parliamentary support to the future government, requesting an increase in the minimum wage, pension indexing, and protection for vulnerable categories.
In a statement released on Friday, the social democrats claim that Romania needs a government with full powers „as soon as possible,” but they warn that PSD’s support depends on the inclusion of clear measures in the government program.
PSD demands an end to austerity
Among the main requests are the cessation of increasing the tax burden on low and middle-income individuals and small entrepreneurs.
PSD argues that budget balancing measures should be primarily based on stimulating investments and economic activities that generate additional revenues for the state budget.
"The future government must assume through the Government Program a series of essential measures to protect the population and to boost the economy," the party conveys.
Higher salaries, indexed pensions, and capping of markups
The social democrats propose an anti-inflation package that includes raising the minimum wage and indexing pensions.
Additionally, PSD calls for support measures for mothers, veterans, and persons with disabilities, as well as the extension of the scheme limiting commercial markups for essential products, both food and non-food items, included in the minimum consumption basket.
Administrative reform and bureaucracy reduction
On the list of conditions is the expansion of the "Hot Meal" program in schools as a measure to reduce school dropout rates.
PSD also calls for administrative reform to reduce public expenses and encourage the consolidation of small localities, as well as measures for streamlining bureaucracy. The party proposes reducing administrative burdens for citizens and businesses by at least 25% and shortening authorization deadlines by a minimum of 30%.
At the same time, the social democrats demand the revitalization of the economy by settling the state's debts to companies.
Support for industry and agriculture
In economic terms, PSD requests the resumption of programs to stimulate strategic sectors through state guarantees for investments and working capital, interest rate subsidies, and the expansion of the Rabla program to support the auto industry.
For agriculture, the party proposes a program of subsidized loans with an 80% interest rate subsidy for Romanian farmers.
