The discussions at Cotroceni with President Nicușor Dan focused only on economic issues, stated the interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, after consultations.
He specified that it was an informal discussion, in which the PSD presented the party’s points of view, and that other discussions will follow.
“PSD is a responsible party that comes up with solutions for Romanians and does not shy away from responsibility. We discussed the economic aspect, our concern and that of President Nicușor Dan was finding solutions. I want to welcome the president's openness to these discussions,” stated Sorin Grindeanu.
Asked about a potential entry into governance, Grindeanu emphasized that the PSD is waiting to see the governance program, and then will make a decision.
“There is no certainty. First, we discuss programs and projects. What interests us is the governance program, and then we make a decision. It is important to first have an agreed governance program with measures, including in the fiscal area, and then make a decision within the party,” said Grindeanu.
The PSD leader emphasized that he would like a broader consultation within the party regarding entering governance.
“We are considering a broader consultation within the party if we reach the point of agreeing on the governance program. However, we have 1,800 mayors, most of the parliamentarians. It is a discussion we will have in the coming days. I believe it is the right decision to consult the party base for making this decision,” stated Grindeanu.
Regarding the position of Prime Minister, the interim president of the PSD added, “We did not discuss positions, not a second was spent on that. Today, we did not discuss positions. If things are in an acceptable range, yes, we will also talk about positions. Today was an informal meeting, some possible future steps were discussed. I am convinced that at the end of the day, Nicușor Dan will communicate the potential steps.”
President Nicușor Dan has, on Wednesday, the first consultations with the parliamentary parties.
According to the Presidential Administration, the consultations are informal and focus on the economic and political situation of the country.
There will be 11 hours of discussions, with each party having an hour and a half. They started at 9:00 with the Social Democratic Party and will end at 20:00 with the unaffiliated parliamentarians.
President Nicușor Dan stated Wednesday morning that the discussions at the Cotroceni Palace with the parliamentary formations focus on balancing the state budget and the new Government, which he hopes will be formed in two to three weeks and will include the four pro-Western parties.
