AUR leader George Simion stated that he would accept the mandate to form the government if President Nicușor Dan entrusted it to him. In the same context, he responded to whether he would propose Călin Georgescu for the position of prime minister.
The statements were made on the OFF The Record show on Mediafax.
"If Nicușor Dan gives us the mandate, we will accept it. We can't wait. We lose years of life and we die with these incompetents, literally and figuratively. We were about to die in Constanța," said George Simion.
When asked if, in the event that AUR were to form the government, Călin Georgescu would be his proposal for the position of prime minister, Simion replied negatively. "No. Călin Georgescu should be the President of Romania. People voted for him to be president," said Simion.
"The relationship is one of respect"
George Simion also spoke about the relationship he has with the former presidential candidate, rejecting the idea that he dictates his political decisions.
"The relationship is one of respect. We are two political competitors who share the same vision and walk the same path. We are not subordinate, and we are not people who speak on behalf of others and not on our own behalf. I speak as the president of AUR, and Călin Georgescu would have been the President of Romania if they hadn't canceled the elections. I have this conviction."
Simion added that the party follows the mandate received from the voters and that no one dictates their decisions.
"Romanians, our voters, have dictated to us. It's time for someone in Romania to do what they say and represent their voters with honor. There is no person in Romania or anywhere else in the world who could come and dictate to me."
How he says he would form a majority
Asked on what parliamentary majority he would rely on if he were to receive the mandate as prime minister, the AUR leader replied that he would try to build a coalition with the same political forces that supported the efforts to suspend the president and hold early elections.
Simion also claimed that the rejection in Parliament of Adrian Veștea's prime minister proposal created more favorable conditions for the next designated candidate.
"I believe that by defeating Veștea's proposal, which was almost exclusively our work, we have eased the work of the next nominee in a way. There are a few, not as many as they would imagine, who will vote out of the consideration of not losing their parliamentary mandate. But I tell you that we also have very honorable people in the Romanian Parliament," said Simion.
In the same interview, the AUR leader reiterated the request for President Nicușor Dan to designate a new candidate for the position of prime minister by Sunday, in the context of the party's initiatives to suspend the head of state.
