Ciucă announces that PNL will have its own candidate for the presidential elections. Will the coalition still work?

The President of the National Liberal Party, Nicolae Ciucă, stated on Wednesday, at the party headquarters, that he can say with all responsibility that the PNL will have its own candidate for the presidential elections.

The leader of the liberals also specified that he strongly supports each party mobilizing its electorate and having its own options to enter the presidential and general elections.

"I can tell you with all responsibility that the National Liberal Party will have its own candidate in the presidential elections and all these scenarios, as is normal in political life and public debate, are the delight of analysis. But, now, as we discuss and this approach will not change, PNL will have its own candidate," stated the President of the PNL.

Asked if he sees the scenario where PSD could support Nicolae Ciucă, the leader of the PNL said: "If we look at the figures obtained by each party, their sum is considerably higher than the vote obtained on the joint list.

The electorate of each of us pulls and mobilizes for everything that represents the values and identity of each party. Therefore, at the moment I strongly support that each of us mobilize our electorate and have our own options to enter the presidential and general elections."

The President of the PNL was also asked about a tandem of Nicolae Ciucă as president and Marcel Ciolacu as prime minister.

"After we have the elections and see what the results are again and the citizens' choice at the vote, there must be a considerable majority in Parliament to form a coalition in order to govern based on the principle of continued stability.

Because these nearly three years have shown that when a coalition has this substantial majority, it can make the necessary decisions for the country to go through exceptional situations, crisis situations, and, as we see the perspective, at least in the short term, political stability will be needed," Ciucă further stated.

Will the coalition still work?

Nicolae Ciucă stated at the PNL headquarters that from his perspective, the coalition can function, even if he will be a rival with Marcel Ciolacu in the presidential elections.

"This is a political confrontation. Of course, we do not expect it to be a kind of tango, it is a very serious matter regarding governance.

On the other hand, as we did in the local campaign, we will continue on the same line of projects, objectives, so that we remain in the decency that we try and talk about and must generate for each of the citizens," replied the President of the PNL.
