After the split with President Donald Trump, Elon Musk is „very welcome” in the European Union, said the European Commission spokesperson, Paula Pinho, smiling on Friday.
The question was jokingly asked by a curious journalist if the billionaire intends to move his businesses to Europe.
The Commission treated the subject with humor but emphasized openness to investors.
Paula Pinho's colleague, Thomas Regnier, stated that the EU encourages private initiative and entrepreneurship, and Musk's presence in Europe would fit perfectly with the objectives of the "Choose Europe" program. This European project aims to attract startups and expanding technology companies, an area where Musk is already a global leader.
Russia offers to protect him
Meanwhile, in Moscow, communist deputy Dmitri Novikov stated that Russia could offer political asylum to Musk if he requested it. Even though, Novikov says, "it doesn't seem like he needs asylum," the precedent of Snowden - the former CIA analyst who received protection in Russia after revealing American espionage programs - provides a possible framework for such a gesture.
Former President Dmitri Medvedev intervened ironically in the dispute, offering "mediation" between Trump and Musk on the X network.
"We are willing to facilitate a peace agreement in exchange for a reasonable price and a few Starlink actions. Stop fighting, children!" wrote the Vice President of the Russian Security Council.
The Kremlin does not want to get involved
The Kremlin spokesperson refused to comment on the differences between Trump and Musk, classifying everything as "an internal matter of the USA."
Russia's official position is not to intervene in the conflict between the American president and his former ally.
From ally to critic: Musk–Trump split
Elon Musk, who was one of Donald Trump's major supporters in the 2024 election campaign and briefly led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), distanced himself abruptly last week. He criticized Trump's fiscal plan, warning that it would increase the budget deficit and nullify his efforts to reduce public spending.
Although they seemed to part amicably at last Friday's joint press conference, the relationship between the two deteriorated rapidly. On Thursday, Musk publicly criticized Trump's fiscal policies, to which Trump reacted strongly, stating that the billionaire "has gone mad" after the administration reduced incentives for electric vehicles.
The scandal escalated when Trump threatened to terminate government contracts with Musk's companies.
In response, SpaceX's founder made a serious accusation, suggesting that the president was on the contact list of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, an insinuation that further inflamed political tensions in the USA.
