The Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță, claims to have discovered a situation of „theft of the entire building.”
In a Facebook post, Miruță says he learned how a 1,500 square meter property in the center of Bucharest, belonging to the ministry, was used by private companies without paying rent for almost two decades.
"You may have heard of stealing with a bag, with a trailer, or with a trunk... But with the entire building?! This is definitely new," Miruță wrote in a public post.
He claims he was advised to "not break the bubble" and to continue to ignore the situation, "as others have left it until now." "I convey a single message: excluded!" the minister affirms.
According to him, it concerns a 1,500 sqm building with 54 offices "where several companies operate, but for 18 years the Ministry has not collected any rent, even though they are leased and subleased." "Yes, you read that right: ZERO lei for almost two decades, while others were making good money."
The minister claims that the situation was possible "because it was allowed" and promises that things will no longer continue in this manner. "I ordered the evacuation, the Romanian state will be able to use an entire office building, and the Ministry will collect the rent, not the tricksters."
Miruță did not specify which companies benefited from this situation or whether there is an ongoing official investigation.
