Previous records
The previous historical maximum before the current period was recorded on May 8, 2025, when the euro reached 5.1222 lei at the NBR rate, in a tense context generated by the presidential elections.
After that period, the rate did not exceed the 5.10 lei threshold until May 2026, when internal political tensions put pressure on the national currency again.
The evolution of the exchange rate occurs against the background of uncertainty generated by the no-confidence motion initiated by PSD, AUR, and PACE - First Romania, which is being debated and voted on Tuesday in Parliament. Investors closely monitor the outcome of the vote and the prospects for the formation of a new government.
