The National Company for Road Infrastructure Management (CNAIR) approved on Thursday the feasibility study for the Brașov – Făgăraș Highway, a project estimated at 7.74 billion lei without VAT, which is set to connect the two cities through a route of nearly 50 kilometers.
According to a statement released by the company, the documentation received a favorable review in the Technical-Economic Council of CNAIR and is set to undergo analysis by the Technical-Economic Council of the Ministry of Transport and the Interministerial Council.
Subsequently, the project will need to be approved by Government Decision.
49 bridges and viaducts along the route
The new highway will have a length of 49.3 kilometers and will include three road junctions - at Codlea South, Codlea North, and Șercaia.
On the route, there are also 49 bridges, passages, and viaducts, an S3 type service area, a short-term parking lot, and a Maintenance and Coordination Center.
The project also includes two "cut and cover" tunnels, as well as a polished structure. The three special structures will have a total length of approximately 800 meters and will also function as wildlife crossings.

CNAIR: the project can proceed directly to the execution tender
CNAIR states that the project has an internal rate of economic return (IRR) of 13.10%, a figure that justifies continuing the design stages within the current contract.
According to the company, this would allow, after the approval of the technical-economic indicators, for the tender for the execution of the works to be launched directly, following the model of FIDIC Red type contracts.
