The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) is preparing a pilot digitalization project where individual taxpayers would interact at counters with digital terminals and virtual assistants, following the model of systems used in airports or fast-food restaurants.
The project is set to be initially tested in the tax administrations of the Capital and is part of a broader plan for the modernization and digitalization of the Tax Authority, as reported by Economedia.
Interactive terminals for submitting requests
Thus, ANAF is preparing the installation of interactive terminals through which taxpayers can submit requests, request documents, or receive information without directly interacting with the counter officials.
The system is designed especially for individuals and is expected to operate with the help of the "ANA" chatbot, integrated into a digital interface similar to those used in airport ordering kiosks or fast-food restaurants.
Taxpayers are expected to identify themselves in the system, select the desired service, and have their requests automatically transmitted to ANAF. The project's aim is to reduce waiting times and simplify the relationship with the institution.
Pilot project, limited by IT infrastructure
Sources mentioned that the project is still in the pilot phase and cannot be quickly expanded to fully accessible home services.
The main issues relate to IT infrastructure and cybersecurity, areas where ANAF systems have faced difficulties in recent years, including blockages and periods of unstable operation.
ANAF promises a new portal and smart forms
The project is part of the broader digitalization process of ANAF and the Ministry of Finance, which includes modernizing the Virtual Private Space (SPV), restructuring IT infrastructure, and automating some services for taxpayers.
Recently, the interim Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, announced that the new ANAF portal and an extended version of the SPV are expected to be launched this summer. According to him, the system will include smart and partially pre-filled forms, online appointments, video conferences, and faster digital communication with taxpayers.
Nazare stated that the digitalization of ANAF represents one of the most extensive administrative modernization processes in Romania, with over 2,500 employees from the Ministry of Finance, ANAF, and the National Center for Financial Information working on the new IT systems.
