A 44-year-old man, holding dual Russian and German citizenship, was detained by the Police in Bucharest after being internationally wanted by the German authorities.
He is accused of allegedly instigating the murder of a young woman in Berlin back in 2019 – the daughter of a man to whom he owed over 80,000 euros.
Revenge-Ordered Crime
It all started from an unpaid debt. The suspect reportedly decided to seek revenge on his creditor not directly, but through an extreme act: ordering the assassination of his daughter.
According to information provided through the SIRENE channel (the European law enforcement information exchange network), the man allegedly reached out to an accomplice, who in turn contacted a hired assassin, a Moldovan citizen recruited from the organized crime circles.
The assassin was sent to Berlin and, on March 18, 2019, around 10:10 PM, he attacked the victim as she was heading towards her car. The woman was stabbed twice in the chest, sustaining fatal wounds – one of them piercing her heart. She died on the spot.
Fugitive Caught in Romania
Although the crime took place six years ago, the investigation in Germany recently led to the issuance of a European arrest warrant for the man believed to be the instigator.
He was initially detected on June 24, 2025, at the Stânca border crossing point (Botoșani county), entering Romania from Moldova.
Subsequently, he was located and captured in Bucharest, in less than 24 hours from the activation of the international alert.
The man was detained for 24 hours and is now in the custody of the General Police Directorate of Bucharest Municipality.
He is to be presented to the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which will decide whether to extradite him to the judicial authorities in Germany.
