President Emmanuel Macron has revealed details of a platform designed to attract scientists to Europe and France, an initiative primarily aimed at dissatisfied American researchers due to Donald Trump’s policies.
„Here in France, research is a priority, innovation is a culture, and science is a limitless horizon. Researchers from around the world, choose France, choose Europe! See you on May 5th,” wrote the French president on the X network, as reported by AFP and EFE.
In this message, he also included the address of a website presenting the "Choose France for Science" platform, through which the country "commits to opposing attacks on academic freedom worldwide."
Through "Choose France for Science," universities, schools, and research organizations in the country will be able to apply for state funds to cover 50% of the hosting costs for foreign talents.
This will bring benefits especially to projects in sectors such as health, climate, biodiversity, sustainability, digital environment, artificial intelligence, space, agriculture, sustainable food, forests and natural resources, and green energy.
Details about French organizations specialized in these fields are available on the same site, so interested scientists can contact them and be selected.
As for the meeting on May 5th that Macron mentions in his social media message, it is, according to local press, a call for a large gathering with the scientific community that the French president will lead on that day.
