A prestigious institution of higher education in the United States leads the QS World University Rankings. The next two spots on the podium are occupied by European universities.
The 21st edition of the QS World University Rankings is dominated by American universities. 197 higher education institutions from the United States are present in this ranking. And European universities hold half of the top 10 positions, with four of them being British, as reported by Euronews.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) holds the top spot in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a position held for 13 consecutive years.
The other two spots on the podium are occupied by two British universities - Imperial College London (rising from sixth place to second) and University of Oxford. Harvard is in fourth place, closely followed by Cambridge.
No university from Romania is in the top 500 in the world.
Only two universities from our country are in the top 1,000 in the world: Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, ranked 781-790 (up from 801-850 in 2024), and University of Bucharest, ranked 801-850 (up from 851-900).
Top of the Best Universities in the World
The best universities in Europe are Imperial College of London and Oxford, both ranked on the podium in the global top.
Following are University of Cambridge, ETH Zurich, and University College of London.
After the United Kingdom, the country with the most universities in the European top is Switzerland, with ETH Zurich (seventh globally) and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
France and Germany are also present in the top with Université PSL and Technical University of Munich.
The Best Universities in Europe
QS World University Rankings is the most used by employers. This year's edition is the largest in the world, including over 1,500 universities from the 105 most developed education systems.
