Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, a two-time Grand Slam champion in her career, recently returned to competitions and has accepted a first wild card for the upcoming clay season on the WTA calendar.
Thus, the 32-year-old Romanian born in Constanța, who played her first official match in Miami, lost in the first round to Paula Badosa, will compete in France at Rouen, a WTA 250 tournament.
The athlete accepted the wild card offered by the French organizers and will compete in Hexagon in her first clay tournament since Roland Garros 2022, as reported by Fanatik newspaper.
The tournament will start on April 15, and the matches will be held on indoor clay. The competition takes place during the same week as the Stuttgart tournament, which is a more prestigious event, classified as a WTA 500 competition.
The last match played by the Romanian at Rouen was a sad memory, where Romania lost a dramatic Fed Cup semifinal match to France in 2019, a match lost 2-3, in the decisive doubles match, where Halep partnered with Monica Niculescu. However, she won both singles matches against Caroline Garcia and Kiki Mladenovici.
This will be the first tournament where Halep will appear alongside her new coach, spaniard Carlos Martinez, former manager of Kuznetsova and Kasatkina.
