American sports legend Lindsay Vonn was urgently transported by helicopter to the hospital in serious condition after the downhill event at the 2026 Cortina Olympics.
She is currently being evaluated by doctors after being airlifted following a catastrophic fall in the downhill event on the legendary Cortina slope.
Karin Kildow, Vonn's sister, admitted that it was terrifying to see Lindsay in this terrible accident, the 2010 Olympic champion violently hitting the slope, remaining lying on the ground for several minutes before emergency medics intervened.
"Certainly, this was the last thing we wanted to see. It happened quickly, so when this happens, you immediately hope that everything is okay. It was scary because when you start to see the stretchers out, it's not a good sign. She dared a lot and gave her all out there, so it's very hard to watch, but we truly hope she is okay," revealed Karin Kildow in an interview for CNN.
Vonn will not regret her decision to compete, her sister further states, providing some medical details on how the multiple champion is feeling: "She always goes at 110%, there is never less, so I know she put her whole heart into this. Sometimes, unfortunate things just happen. It's a very dangerous sport with a lot of variables at play, so I don't know exactly what happened, but it seemed to be quite a hard fall. We just hope for the best, but she definitely won't have any regrets. She was sure of the decision she made," Kildow added.
This season, Vonn participated in nine races, winning two and never finishing below the podium.
The downhill race at Cortina was won by another American, but a much less titled and surprising Breezy Johnson.
