Nightmare traffic expected on DN1: Weight restrictions lifted during works on the Olt Valley

The National Company for the Management of Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) announced on Monday the lifting of weight restrictions on DN1 during the works on the Olt Valley.

The traffic on the Prahova Valley will be even more congested after the closure of traffic on the Olt Valley.

The Prahova Valley is one of the alternative routes, and CNAIR informs that the decision has been made to temporarily lift the traffic restriction for road vehicles with a maximum authorized total mass greater than or equal to 7.5 tons, other than those exclusively for transporting passengers, on the DN1 road section, Ploieşti (intersection DN1 with DJ236) - Braşov (intersection DN1 with DN1A) on Tuesdays - Thursdays, between 6:00 - 22:00.

The decision is in effect from July 8 to August 9, 2024, when traffic on the Olt Valley will be diverted.

"This measure is applied during the execution of clearing, scraping, and relocation of dangerous rocks works, for the realization of works related to section 2 of the Sibiu - Pitești highway, on the DN 7 section, between Boița (exit from the highway) and Brezoi, for which, for safety reasons for traffic participants, the establishment of a total traffic restriction during the day, for a month, starting from July 8, 2024, was necessary," CNAIR announces.

The deforestation works of 20,000 trees started on Monday on the Olt Valley, and CNAIR has posted images on the institution's Facebook page.

"We are considering part of the works to be done at night"

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated on Monday that together with the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, they are considering having part of the works on the Olt Valley done at night. Regarding the closure of traffic during the day, he specified that it was evident that discomfort would be created, but there is a risk of rocks falling on cars, endangering the lives of drivers.

"I have seen some images of rocks falling. However, life is a priority, as with drugs. I believe that the right to life is the first right we have," the Prime Minister said.

"Together with Mr. Grindeanu, we are considering having part of the works done at night, but some works had to be done, it was evident that discomfort would be created. We cannot risk the lives of drivers, having rocks fall on them," added Prime Minister Ciolacu.

It is worth mentioning that from July 8 to August 9, on DN 7 Pitești-Sibiu, on the kilometer section 242+600 meters - 250, in the area of Boița locality, Sibiu county, road traffic will be diverted to alternative routes.

During the traffic restriction period, time intervals from 7:30 - 8:00 and 16:30 - 17:00 have been set, during which the works contractor will temporarily lift the traffic closure measure to allow residents working in the nearby localities to transit the road section.
