10 years since Colectiv. Goodbye to Gravity's lead singer launches a charitable music project (Video)

Ten years after the fire at the Colectiv club, Goodbye to Gravity’s vocalist, Andrei Găluț, returns to the public stage alongside ten surviving musicians. They have launched „The Memento Project,” a charitable initiative dedicated to the victims of tragedies that have marked Romania in the last decade.

The project includes acoustic versions of the songs „The Day We Die” and „The Cage,” reinterpreted and filmed in the studio of Mihai Grecea, one of the former members of Goodbye to Gravity (GTG).

Andrei Găluț's Return After a Ten-Year Absence

"The Memento Project" marks Găluț's first public appearance after ten years of treatments and surgeries.

"The Cage was our first artistic music video, and The Day We Die became emblematic for the anti-corruption civic movements. I have seen its lyrics on banners and clothes worn by people who desire positive change in Romania," the artist explains.

He recounts that he started working on these versions right from the hospital. "I used the guitar as support during painful medical procedures and as a mental support in the turbulent years following the fire," Găluț says.

A Collaboration That Seemed Almost Impossible

Găluț initiated the project after a visit to Mihai Grecea's studio. "From the first visit, we started recording the ideas that are reflected in this project. It was almost impossible because we are not a cohesive band, but we managed to give the songs a unique form," the artist further shared in an interview for News.ro.

The album's name also holds special significance. "The idea of the name Memento seemed fitting to me. People need to remember what happened to us, and I hope this tribute will inspire them to bring their share of goodness into the world," the vocalist emphasized.

A Charitable Gesture Dedicated to the Victims

All funds generated by the music video and songs will be donated to the Association "In the Name of Alexandru", founded by Narcis Hogea, the father of a young man who died due to nosocomial infections after the Colectiv tragedy. The organization provides support to individuals who have suffered burns and their families.

In 2015, Goodbye to Gravity released their album "Mantras of War" with an anti-corruption message. However, the concert turned into a tragedy: the fire at the Colectiv club killed 65 people and injured another 180. Three band members – Alex Pascu, Vlad Țelea, and Bogdan Enache - died, and Găluț was severely injured.

The verse "The day we give in is the day we die" later became a symbol of resistance and the fight against corruption, adopted by protesters as a message of hope.
