The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, commented on the conditions set by the PSD to participate in the future governing coalition, stating that they are set to be negotiated upon.
„All conditions are set to be negotiated upon,” said Nicușor Dan.
He referred to investments, stating that "the issue is whether the state can afford a pace of investments with very high interest rates (...) in principle yes (I agree with the investments)."
PSD has presented a series of conditions for the political support of a future government, within a governing coalition or from the opposition benches. PSD announced that "it will not accept under any circumstances cutting investments in infrastructure, in the economy, and for programs for the development of local communities targeting roads, schools, medical units, water supply, and sewage."
Furthermore, PSD stated that "it will not support any measure that has the effect of reducing the purchasing power of pensioners and employees with low and medium incomes" and "categorically excludes any increase in taxing labor or pensions from the public system."
The party added that it will "firmly oppose any initiative that would involve Romania in any type of military action carried out outside the NATO framework or outside the defense of national territory."
What is said about a PSD mayor
Asked whether PSD could demand the position of prime minister in the negotiations for the formation of the new government, Nicușor Dan avoided giving a clear answer.
"There are many technical issues. Technical discussions, technical matters," Dan replied, refusing to go into details about the political negotiations.
The elected President added that he does not want to "advance" certain situations at the moment.
Regarding the ministers, when asked if the current ones will be part of the new government, Nicușor Dan said that "case by case, but society wants new people."
He also added that the new government will be installed in "two - three - four weeks," after formation discussions that will start next week.
