The Russian ambassador laughs at Romanian diplomats after being summoned yesterday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Russian Ambassador to Bucharest, Valery Kuzmin, ironically commented on his summons to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating that the subject of the conversation was not clearly defined and that it was the vaguest approach he encountered during his stay in Romania.

„In an impersonal and vague form,” he said, „we were presented with the assertion that, according to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy’s communication was too creative, emotional, and incorrect,” Kuzmin stated in an interview with the TASS news agency.

"As the subject of the conversation was not clearly defined, I could only guess that the discourse referred to our reaction to the actions of Romanian Members of the European Parliament and the Romanian side in general, during the preparation and adoption of the recent resolution of the European Parliament regarding the return of illegally seized Romanian gold by Russia over 100 years ago," the Russian diplomat affirmed.

"This was the vaguest step I encountered during my stay in Romania," Kuzmin noted.

"In turn, I said that, if it turns out that some of the facts I cited do not correspond to reality, then we are ready to publish a correction," continued the diplomat.

"In accordance with the letter and spirit of the Vienna Convention, a diplomatic mission in a foreign country must communicate the official position of its accrediting state government to the leadership and public opinion," emphasized Valery Kuzmin, according to TASS.

The Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmin was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday morning, where the profound dissatisfaction of the Romanian side was conveyed regarding the "distorted, truncated, and non-conforming" manner in which important issues, including those of bilateral relevance originating from historical past, are addressed, including in the public communication of the Russian Embassy.

Kuzmin was summoned after harsh statements made by the Russian MFA spokesperson Maria Zakharova appeared on the Russian Embassy's Facebook page in response to the European Parliament resolution on the restitution of the Romanian treasure seized by Russia.
