Senator Radu Oprea spoke out on Wednesday against including any candidate with legal issues on the electoral lists of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), stating that the PSD Organization in Prahova county supports the current prefect, Virgil Nanu, for the presidency of the County Council.
He emphasized that any potential support from PNL (National Liberal Party) for Iulian Dumitrescu for a new term as president of the Prahova County Council „is not fair to the people of Prahova” until his legal issues are clarified.
"I am from Prahova, so I know quite well what is happening politically in Prahova. The PSD Organization has its own candidate - Virgil Nanu, who is the prefect of Prahova County, an extremely competent individual.
We have our own candidates in all cities in Prahova County. Our party's attitude has been consistent lately: anyone with legal issues, as Iulian Dumitrescu has today, is excluded from the PSD list.
We believe in the values we publicly advocate, and I expect the same from PNL, that when they say something, they stick to it.
I do not think it is fair to the citizens of Prahova County for a person who currently has legal issues, until they are clarified, to be in a position to run for office.
At least we, in PSD, have this approach, and I believe it is a fair approach to the citizens," said Oprea.
PNL Prahova announced on March 20 that the President of the County Council, Iulian Dumitrescu, investigated for corruption, will run for a new term, supported by the local organization.
PNL President Nicolae Ciucă later stated that the decision regarding the candidate supported by the Liberals for the leadership of the Prahova County Council will be made based on laws and principles. A rather vague statement.
