A unique moment of honesty for Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, who admitted on Friday that the current governing coalition has made wrong political decisions, „not to say stupid decisions.”
Marcel Ciolacu acknowledges that the government officials contributed to creating a dangerous situation in Romania.
The Prime Minister was present on Friday morning at the General Assembly of the National Union of County Councils in Romania.
On this occasion, he conveyed that the role of integrator should be assumed by the coalition's candidate for the presidential elections, Crin Antonescu.
"Mr. President Antonescu, you must take on the role of integrator, because we have formed a coalition in the same format before, with both PSD, PNL, and UDMR. Then we made the first mistake because we had to kick out UDMR.
Then we made some good political decisions, followed, as expected, without a binder and just after we had removed UDMR from the coalition, we made some wrong decisions, not to say stupid decisions, to be polite.
We also contributed to creating a dangerous situation, not necessarily for the act of governance, but for a very dangerous situation in Romania. That is the truth," stated Marcel Ciolacu.
"We managed to resist all assaults"
He emphasized that past mistakes should not be repeated.
"And we must always realize that the present is a consequence of the past, and if we still have the capacity not to repeat these mistakes and not to enter the same scenarios imposed by certain individuals with certain direct interests, especially to influence the decisions of politicians. And this time we managed to resist all the assault and all the diversion about who the candidate is, when Crin Antonescu withdraws, Mr. President Bolojan will be the candidate, some support Victor Ponta, others support Nicușor Dan, and I am glad that today we gathered to speak directly," further conveyed Prime Minister Ciolacu.
He added that the only coalition that can implement everything needed in Romania is the one in power.
"If this coalition, which is a majority coalition in the Parliament of Romania, does not have the capacity and continues to be defensive towards formations or individuals who do not represent anything at the parliamentary level and we continue to wait, we make a serious mistake. The only coalition and the only majority that can ensure and implement everything needed in Romania, I want to tell you, is in this room," Ciolacu affirmed.
"I will never accept an alliance with AUR"
He stated that he will never accept an alliance with AUR.
"Arithmetic is very clear, it is a fixed science. It is not random, and we should not try to do other exercises. I will never accept an alliance with AUR.
I know that we butchered PSD with PNL for three months, after standing back to back for three years and overcoming Romania's most complicated period.
It was foolish what we did. But together with President Bolojan and with you, we found the resources to overcome and see not our party's interest, not our personal interest, but the interest and the complicated situation Romania was going through.
We have a binder, it is Crin Antonescu, he is also the guarantor, he will be in the future as well, and I believe we cannot afford to miss such a chance. But this is done through involvement," Marcel Ciolacu further stated.
