The Romanian Government adopted on Thursday the decision attributing a residence to former President Traian Băsescu.
However, the decision is classified as a state secret, so we cannot know neither where, nor how big the apartment provided by the state to the former president is.
"At his request, it was not a villa, but an apartment in a residential building. Also, at his request, the government decision is classified," said Ioana Dogoiu, the government spokesperson.
"It was the request of former President Traian Băsescu and it was accepted. That is all I can tell you. It is an apartment in a building. Furthermore, since it is a government decision with a classified status, obviously I cannot tell you more," emphasized the spokesperson.
The decision to classify this normative act was made by the Bolojan Government for security reasons, added Dogioiu.
"It was the beneficiary's request, who presumably does not want the address to be public, which also involves some security issues, of course," explained Dogioiu.
"Any issuer of normative acts can decide on the classification regime," argued the official from the Government, when journalists insisted on finding out why the Executive, which promised full transparency, decided to classify this decision.
Traian Băsescu officially requested the Presidential Administration to restore his rights as a former president, following the decision of the Constitutional Court. He demands the attribution of an official residence, as well as the retroactive payment of the monthly allowance lost three years ago.
On the other hand, today the Government also decided that the RA-APPS villa in Aviatorilor, currently under renovation, which was rumored to be prepared for Klaus Iohannis, will be transferred from the public domain to the state's private domain for commercial purposes, for future leasing.
