A serious road accident involving three Romanian citizens took place in Bulgaria on Sunday afternoon, between the villages of Voneșta Voda and Văglevți, in Veliko Târnovo.
A man and a woman died on the spot. Another woman has broken legs, as reported by the publication Borbabg.
Three cars registered in Romania were driving in a line at Pasajul Republicii. The first of these attempted to overtake, driving into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a truck.
This was followed by a chain collision involving the next two cars, resulting in the immediate death of the man and one of the women.
Rescue teams arriving at the scene had to cut through the bodies of the destroyed cars to extract the bodies of the two individuals and the injured woman.
Following the accident, traffic through Pasul Hainboaz was blocked. Passenger traffic was diverted through Pasul Șipka, while freight transport remained stationary.
The causes are yet to be determined, and investigations are currently ongoing. Preliminary procedures have been initiated under the coordination of the District Prosecutor's Office.
